The verified foam examples
Mr Mattress identifies a South African queen as 152 x 188 cm and lists mattress-only, VAT-included prices for named foam models: Comfort Foam R3,699, Active Foam R5,199, Revive Memory Foam R7,199 and Ultra 200 Memory Foam R9,199. The retailer says these prices were read from its live store on 4 October 2026. [1]
These are not interchangeable foam products. The published specifications include an 180 mm, 50 kg/m³ high-density foam Comfort Foam; a 220 mm Active Foam with a 50 kg/m³ core and 27 kg/m³ virgin foam; and a 250 mm Revive with a 65 kg/m³ core and 30 kg/m³ memory foam. [1]
What the pocket-spring listing confirms — and does not
Inspire Factory Direct displays R5,499.00 for a page titled “Pocket Support – Queen Mattress Only” and identifies the mattress type as Pocket Spring. The description mentions tempered pocket springs, a 67 mm pillow top and foam quilting. [2]
However, the same description repeatedly calls the product a mattress set and describes a pine base, slats and legs. The page does not publish the queen width and length. Therefore R5,499 is a displayed listing price, not a confirmed like-for-like comparison with a 152 x 188 cm mattress-only foam variant. Ask the seller to confirm the supplied item, dimensions and whether the base is included before comparing totals. [2]
A reliable way to compare prices
Match five fields before drawing a conclusion: named model, construction, width and length, mattress-only or base-set scope, and the cash price in rand on the same checking date. Treat “from” prices as starting points, not as the price of a selected queen variant. Also keep standard 188 cm length separate from extra-length options.
On the evidence checked here, no like-for-like price verdict is established. The foam page supplies a clear queen mattress-only range from one retailer, while the pocket-spring page supplies an exact displayed amount but leaves dimensions and inclusion scope unresolved. This small sample cannot show that foam is always cheaper, that pocket springs are always dearer, or that one construction is a quality or health winner.
